Celebrating Toniann
When and how did you first learn about Funko? Did you start collecting right away or did it develop over time?
"I learned about Funko from my husband! We were in a Walmart and he showed me a Funko Pop! of one of my all time favorite Marvel characters: Logan! I started collecting slowly, but once I had about 20 Funko Pops! I started going at hyper speed!"
Were you a collector before you encountered Funko?
"I would say I was somewhat of a collector, when I was a kid I collected Bratz, Littlest Pet Shops, and American Girl Dolls! So I always had a collection of something."
When would you say you switched from being a collector to becoming a Funatic? What does Funko Family mean to you?
"I think I made the switch from a collector to a Funatic when I started engaging more on social media. I adore posting my collection and talking to other collectors and Funatics! Funko Family means everything to me. I've met some of my best friends through the Funko Family and I can't imagine my life without them. I love making new friends through the Funko community on different platforms too."
What Funko lines and fandom(s) do you collect?
"Marvel, Star Wars, Anime and Disney! And Grey's Anatomy (I've completed the set)."
Do you have favorite fandom(s) that hold special meaning to you?
"Marvel is my favorite fandom! Scarlet Witch and Daredevil are my all time favorite Marvel characters because of how much emotion and depth comes with them. Marvel always pulls at my heart strings! Star Wars is also so special to me because my dad and I can bond over the characters together."
Is there anyone you share your fandom(s) with?
"My husband and I share Marvel and anime, and my friend Rianna and I share Marvel and Star Wars!"
What was the first Funko piece in your collection?
"647 Pop! Logan from X-Men!"
Is there a particular Funko art or figure style that you enjoy?
"I love Glow-In-The-Dark and Metallic Funko Pops!"
How do you display your collection? In box, out of box, shelves, cases?
"I display my collection out of box mostly in bookshelves, I do have some of my Funko Pops! in their boxes because they're autographed or limited edition!"
Is there anything not made by Funko that you collect?
"Enamel pins!"
What song are you currently listening to?
"Eternal Sunshine by Ariana Grande!"
What do you love about Funko?
"I love that there is a Funko product for every fandom! If you're a fan of something, you can find a Funko Pop! or product of it! I've gotten some of my friends into Funko Pops! because I've given them as gifts or told them about my collection, and now they collect themselves!"
What’s your favorite Funko memory?
"My first trip to Funko Hollywood in California was so memorable. I felt like I was at home! I loved all of the displays and the fact that I could make a Funko Pop! of myself! I also love seeing the Funko booth at New York Comic Con! I've seen it twice (2022 and 2023) and I've loved the energy of everyone at the booth! It's always full of smiles."
What motivated you to start photographing your collection and sharing the photos on social media?
"I've always loved taking photos (I took photography classes in college and have my Bachelors degree in Journalism) and I enjoyed seeing other people post their Funko photography. So honestly, other Funatics inspired me to start taking photos of my collection and posting them!"
Can you share a little bit about your thought process going into staging and taking photos of your collectibles?
"I love to take inspiration from the media that the characters of my Funko Pops! are in (movies, shows, photos). For example, I took a picture of one of my Wanda Maximoff Funko Pops! and edited the Scarlet Witch tiara from a Scarlet Witch Funko Pop! as a shadow and I loved how it turned out! It was very unique and other people seemed to enjoy it too!"
What advice do you have for other Funatics taking photos of their collection?
"Be creative! It's so fun to try different ideas with pictures. You might inspire someone else to be creative! I also recommend adding filters to enhance colors."
If licensing wasn’t a limitation, what Pop! collection would you like to see made?
"I would love to see more Grey's Anatomy Funko Pops!"
