Fire up the coffeemaker! Everything’s just fine. Come meet a Funko packaging designer whose first POP! is a surefire way to ride out any chaos the day may bring. Let’s get started!
What is your name/job title at Funko?
Paul Crump/Senior Packaging Designer
What is your first Funko collectible, and where do you display it?
My first Funko POP! was the “This Is Fine Dog.” It currently sits in a place of prominence on the desk in my home office.
Is there a story or memory behind your first Funko collectible?
It was given to me as a Christmas present by an old boss at a previous job where I worked as a Product Developer. It was intended as a humorous, tongue-in-cheek nod to the inherent chaos of our job, but it quickly became a sentimental favorite, both because it was my very first Funko POP! as well as for the memories that I associate with it from that time. Coincidentally, my very next job opportunity would be with Funko as a Packaging Designer!
How does this collectible inspire your work?
Sentimentality aside, I still find myself so impressed with the unique qualities of this figure with the fire, the chair, and the printing on the mug. As well as the inclusion of the backer card in the box which doesn’t happen often with standard POP! collectibles. It reminds me that we sometimes do our coolest work when we take small risks and stray outside the boundaries of our norms to deliver something that surprises and exceeds expectations.
Anything else you'd like to add?
I love our fans so much and all the passion they have for their fandoms. Never let anyone tell you that something you love is silly or unimportant!
