Morph into action! This month’s My First Funko post is within range. Read on to discover a Funko employee’s powerful first collectible—and the one that got away. All systems go!

What is your name and job title at Funko?

Myron Madden, Email Marketing Coordinator / Email Marketing Wizard. (Yes, I’m serious. My email designs are magic.)

What is your first Funko collectible and where is it?

My first Funko was the original Groot from Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy. I had no idea what a “Groot” or a “Funko Pop!” was at the time, so I immediately gave it away to a friend. (Definitely regretting that decision now.)

Is there a special story/memory behind your first Funko collectible?

The first Funko (that I actually kept) was a gift from my college girlfriend. She knew I was a massive Power Rangers dork, so she got me the Black Ranger. I’ve never been the best at receiving gifts, but that one made me squeal like a ten-year-old. (A manly, manly ten-year-old.)

How does this Funko Pop! (or collectible) help inspire your work?

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series unlocked my creativity when I was a kid. I had a whole imaginary world where I was on a secret mission to protect the Earth from evil forces (mostly by punching and kicking the air in my backyard). It taught me storytelling and creative problem-solving—and made me feel like I mattered during a time when family life made me feel the opposite.

Now, when I see the whole Ranger team posed over my fireplace, it floods me with that same sense of confidence and gleeful purpose, and reminds me that I have the power to shape reality with only a thought.
