Mwahahahaha! Welcome to Funkoween. It’s time to celebrate the Halloween and horror collectibles we make year-round. If you’re a Funatic who enjoys some of the horror backgrounds we use in photography, stick around to find out what materializes during a photo shoot. And, the recipe for special effects? Let’s just say it’s in our blood. Also, if you ache for a new and haunting collectible or two, we’ve got that as well. So follow us if you dare for a behind-the-screams look at how to scare.

All Set for the Fright

What do you do when a photo shoot calls for something that screams “boo”? Sabrina Chapman, an associate photographer at Funko, takes us on a tour of a photo shoot for a POP! that has a bloody chase.

“I wanted to create a mini scene that really captured the spirit of this POP! and the movie.”

The photos below take you through the lens of Sabrina’s camera, where corrugated metal sheets have been set up to resemble an unsettling place that’s splattered with fake blood. It’s the perfect spot to drop an eerie POP!

“To make the scene as realistic as possible, I let the blood spatter and drip organically and even added some little handprints. I finished off the scene with some red accent lighting to get it looking as menacing as possible.”

Cauldron Concoctions: Recipe for Fake Blood

Having worked as a haunted house actor, Sabrina Chapman, our associate photographer, knows how to set the mood for a blood-curdling scream. Her recipe for fake blood consists of the following ingredients:

• Corn syrup

• Coffee grounds

• Red food coloring

• A touch of blue food coloring

“The coffee really adds a nice grittiness to it, and a drop of blue coloring darkens it to the perfect shade of red!”
