Prep the secret lab! A scientific genius is the fan-focus for this month’s My First Funko post. Come meet a senior manager whose first sci-fi POP! foreshadowed a career at Funko promoting unique, one-of-a-kind POP! collectibles.

What is your name and job title at Funko?

Marisa Dabney / Senior Manager, POP! Yourself Marketing & Integrated Planning

What is your first Funko collectible, and where do you display it?

My first Funko collectible was a POP! TV Orphan Black Cosima Niehaus. I usually display her at my desk, but currently, she is on display in my home office.

Is there a story or memory behind your first Funko collectible?

The POP! of Cosima, who has glasses and locs, was gifted to me by co-workers. They knew I was a fan of the show, but more importantly, they thought it looked like me as I also wear glasses and have locs. Since then, I have made a habit of trying to collect POP! figures that looked like me, for example, POP! Director Ava DuVernay.

How does this collectible inspire your work?

My first Funko POP! foreshadowed my career at Funko. Not only did it inspire me to become a POP! collector, but it also inspired me to work at Funko. In a full-circle moment over the last year, I’ve gotten to work on marketing campaigns for various unique and limited POP! Yourself releases.

It's great to work for a company that helps fans create POP! collections celebrating their favorite fandoms. POP! Yourself helps fans literally see themselves in those collections as well. So now, instead of gifting your co-worker a POP! that kind of looks like them, you can create a custom POP! of them!

Anything else you'd like to add?

Check out POP! Yourself on Funko.com or at our stores as we’ve got lots of fun options to tailor your POP! to you. Right now, you can add Valentine’s Day to create a custom gift as well as NFL team tops so you and your POP! can cheer on your favorite team.
